Newborn Baby Boy Twins

A question I am sometimes asked is what if I’m expecting twins?  Hopefully this blog post can ease your mind on the differences between a newborn session with one baby vs. two babies. 

Is there an additional charge for two babies? No. It is an honor and a privilege to have the opportunity to photograph multiples.  With that being said, there may be a difference in scheduling your appointment, since I will need to have an assistant available.  

Will the session take longer?  Likely, yes.  A newborn session with a single baby typically takes 2-4 hours.  This may seem long, but most of the session time allows for soothing baby to sleep, feeding, changing diapers, and swaddling. Completing these tasks with two babies may require more time, but depends on each set of twins.  I would anticipate the session could take 3-5 hours.  The session featured below took approximately three hours to complete. Something interesting to note with twins is sometimes they soothe each other. I have seen babies go right to sleep from the sounds of the other’s heart beat, and the additional warmth of their sibling snuggled next to them.  

What if the babies require a hospital stay? This is to be expected more often than not with twins, due to multiple factors. Simply being born early may be one reason they might not be released right away. I have had twins scheduled that were released from the hospital weeks apart from one another. As with any newborn session, every situation is unique.  Sometimes being born early will allow a longer sleepy period from the babies, and even if they come for their photo session a bit later than we anticipated, the session is very successful.  Booking adds your spot to my calendar, but I understand that this date is simply an estimate and the actual session may be scheduled at a very different time. That is completely okay!!  I only ask that you communicate any updates with me as soon as you possibly can so I can plan for their session and adjust my schedule accordingly.  If babies are a bit older at their session, we may not be able to achieve every pose that you may have seen other babies in.  This does not mean we can’t get beautiful and adorable photos of them that capture them as perfect as they are in that moment.  

Do you have items that coordinate at the studio to accommodate twins?  Yes. The studio is fully stocked with colors that will go nicely together or coordinate in the colors you may request.  It is best if you let me know what you have in mind as soon as possible after booking so I can ensure availability of items.  If I have enough time to prepare, I can also do my best to order any items that may be needed for your session. I also have bowls, beds and crates that are larger and are sized just right for most twins.  

Will you take pictures of the babies individually?  Yes.  It is helpful if you let me know your expectations before the session. Some families want the focus to be on both babies together, and some want an equal mixture of babies posed separately as well as together. My hope is to deliver a gallery that you will love, and poses planned will be based on your preferences.
