Not everyone is familiar with the term “rainbow baby.” Most people who have a rainbow baby know exactly what this means, but for those who don’t, it is the baby born after suffering a loss of their previous baby. The rainbow symbol has been used by members of the baby loss community for many years, and is believed to have originated in 2008, in a story collected in Christie Brooks’s Our Heartbreaking Choices: Forty-Six Women Share Their Stories of Interrupting a Much-Wanted Pregnancy. The term quickly spread online, and is often asked to be incorporated in the baby’s newborn session.
